Album Review: Divergent Soundtrack Deluxe Edition

Divergen SoundtrackHey everyone! To keep up with this whole book and movie theme, I decided that today I would talk about the movie Divergent:Original Motion Picture Soundtrack-Deluxe Edition. I wrote about the movie review back on Monday's post. Now here I am with the movie's soundtrack.

I first listened to the soundtrack on Spotify which is actually the regular edition with only 9 songs. I instantly ran through all 9-tracks and had it on repeat all day at work! It's a mix of pop, elctro-pop, hip hop, R&B, and everything in-between.

I'm a big Ellie Goulding fan, so when I saw she was one of the artist on the album I decided that I just had to buy the album. Later I found out that she actually wrote 3 songs for the movie. If you have or haven't seen the movie yet, they actually play the songs in the movie. I thought they would only play at the end like in the credits, the way Hunger Games and Catching Fire did in their movies. I was pleasantly surprised that they incorporated the music from the soundtrack into some of the movie's scenes.

If any of you have watched all the other big franchise book-to-movies you might have noticed a lot of their soundtracks has featured indie and alternative-folk music. The Divergent soundtrack is actually very pop and EDM inspired. I assume this was the main focus since the movie does happen to revolve around a Dystopian Chicago. It's very futuristic and post-war, as well as entering a new war.

Now I'm going to give you guys my favorite songs off of the soundtrack! Go listen to them, go buy them on iTunes or buy the CD, yes those still exist!

There is Something About Books

I think I've mentioned it before in a post about a year ago, that I love reading. I will read just about anything from fiction novels to textbooks. Yes, textbooks. I always have a constant need to learn something new. Last summer I ready 38 books in two-and-half months. I should probably mention that I'm a bit of a speed reader. If I set my mind to it I can read a book in about 4-hours with minimal breaks.

You are probably thinking, "Why is she writing about books?" Well, with recent movies being all adaptations from books, I thought why not provide some good reads for you guys. I've read some of these books myself and others that are sitting on my iBooks "shelf".

  1. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

  2. Looking for Alaska by John Green

  3. Paper Towns by John Green

  4. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

  5. Panic by Lauren Oliver

  6. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

  7. You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz

Divergent the Movie

Hey there readers! Friday night I went to the movies with one of my friends to see Divergent. I loved the movie! Granted, I really couldn't remember the book, since I had read it months ago. I can now see why some people were up in arms with the way the movie played out. Am I mad that it didn't follow the book exactly, no. I felt like there was a nice balance between the book and movie adaptation. Besides, Theo James is just the best looking "Four".

It didn't seem long when I sat in the theater watching the movie. There was a lot of action and a bit of romance. There also quite a lot of hilarious sarcasm between characters.

Do I recommend watching it? Yes. I enjoyed it even though it was different than the book. If you are like a die-hard Divergent book series fan, well I'd say you might just be disappointed. Keep in mind that the production staff didn't know if they would be allowed to make the 2 other books, so they had to end it the way they did. All in all, I enjoyed Divergent the Movie. I can't wait to see the next movie! The third one, well that one I hated the book, I hated the ending. So we will see if I ever get around to watching that one.

Did you guys go see it? Or plan on seeing it? Let me know!

Wearing Glasses is Chic

Hey there readers!
Do y'all remember when wearing glasses was, a total geek/nerd fashion faux pas? Well it isn't now! Everyone is wearing glasses, from the normal rectangle ones to super nerdy, think Clark Kent ones. I've always worn glasses, well since sixth-grade at least. I was surprisingly never bullied for wearing them, but that isn't the case for others. I was never ashamed of wearing glasses, I thought it was actually kind of cool seeing as though my older sister wore some too. She's someone I looked up to, I mean she's 7 years older than me, so when I saw she had some I obviously wanted some too.

These days, wearing contacts isn't considered cool anymore, it's being able to wear glasses. Many new hip and geek chic online glasses store-fronts have opened up in the past couple of years. I was always skeptical of ordering glasses online because my prescription is really strong and I have astigmatism. Last year, around September, I ordered some sunglasses from BonLook and was pleasantly surprised that they made them perfectly. Now I'm contemplating about ordering some more online from BonLook and maybe Warby Parker. First I'll get a new prescription, although I can still see 20/20 with my current glasses. I forgot to mention, prices range from $95-$99 + $30 extra for high-index lenses. The high-index lenses are for those, like me, have a strong prescription and would like the lenses to be thinner.

Here are the possible choices:

Potential Glasses

I didn't even know I was on the website when I went and looked at glasses, LOL. I should say I'm also a BonLook Ambassador, but I do like a lot of what Warby Parker offers.
Here's my sunglasses and my photo with them on:

Have you guys ever ordered from these companies? Plan to buy some? Or are you ordering from other companies?

It's a great atmosphere, great food, and great setting. I had the western omelette, usually I eat desert, specifically their chocolate moose and ganache cake!

Sunday was such a long day, it was cloudy and cold, and it all just became one of those lazy Sundays where you want to stay in PJs, nap, and watch movies. It was very uneventful weekend really, besides the car purchase.

Stay tuned for better posts this week. It's been hard to get on schedule with working now. I've just been trying to get into a routine so I can start blogging on a regular basis again.

I’ve Gone Rogue

Hey there, loyal readers!

So in yesterday’s post, I talked about getting a car. It happened! I bought a brand new Nissan Rogue Select Edition from AutoNation Nissan of Dallas. I love it! It has everything I would want in a car minus ONE thing. I didn’t get leather seats. It wasn’t a deal breaker, but I do like heated seats in the winter. I've Gone Rogue

Hey there, loyal readers!

So in yesterday's post, I talked about getting a car. It happened! I bought a brand new Nissan Rogue Select Edition from AutoNation Nissan of Dallas. I love it! It has everything I would want in a car minus ONE thing. I didn't get leather seats. It wasn't a deal breaker, but I do like heated seats in the winter. They are cloth seats so I won't be burning my legs in the summer months. The air condition blasts really cold, too!

What's my favorite feature? It has to be the camera's that are installed all around the SUV. It helps me with my parallel parking, which I will admit, I was never good at. I'm happy that when I took my driving exam, that the parallel parking you had to use was basically made for like an 18-wheeler. The traffic alert, navigation, XM-radio, and iPod/iPhone compatibly is also a nice feature. It has an actual outlet (like the wall ones), a USB outlet, and the standard cigarette one.

Oh, and it has hands-free bluetooth built in, so it even displays the caller on the stereo dash-board. It also recognizes my voice now. The steering wheel has the call and hang-up buttons as well as the stereo control buttons.

It's a steel-gray color with chrome handles and front range with an all black interior.
Here are some photos of the Nissan Rogue:

Car! Well, it depends really. I'm leaning more on getting SUV/crossover. I swear y'all, some of these crazy Texas drivers are the reason why I might just get an SUV. I'm not talking gas- guzzler here, I'm talking something that is fuel efficient. I'm no environmentalist, electric car, hybrid car person either, I just don't want to spend more on gas than on the car payment. I'm thinking about getting a Nissan Rogue. I still want to have disposable income to spend on the things I love, like shopping.

It's a big purchase, one that I've been weighting the pros and cons for. I currently share my moms VW Jetta which I don't find it inconvenient because I don't get burdened with paying for gas or car payment. So, it's a free ride. But, it's about time I got my own and have it at my dispose at anytime of the day or rather any day. I'm leaning more towards like a silver/grey or pearl white color. I originally wanted a black car, but then I started thinking about the chipped paint and dings, and I was like "NO!"

I'll keep y'all update on how it goes and all about the car buying experience.

Until next time,
Felipa xoxo

Weekend Wrap-Up

Here's a quick update for y'all since I haven't had the chance to plan out the week.

So, you know how my blog is called: Felipa Villegas | The Happening: The Ramblings of a Post-Grad? Well, this post-grad landed herself her first real job out of college! My first day was Friday and it was exciting and nerve wracking. There was so much information I learned and yet to learn. It's such a great environment and a bunch of great people that work there too. It felt very much like the first day of school/semester. I actually always looked forward to those first days, something about them gave me an adrenaline rush since everything is so new and so different.

Now, I've mentioned before that I was expecting to get some stuff from the mail. Well they came in late Thursday and Friday so I haven't taken photo's nor have I had the chance to style the items. Worry not, I shall get to them by this upcoming weekend, or perhaps middle of the week. It's really great stuff. Now I'm just waiting for 1 more thing.

Also, Mike Modano had his jersey retired and into the rafters inside the American Airlines Center. You better believe I sports cried for the entire ceremony. It's Mike Modano. I've watched him play since I was 4-years-old. He's the reason I love hockey. He's the reason I spend a ridiculous amount of money on jerseys and game tickets to this day. He's the best and I'm so happy that I had the pleasure of meeting him so many times in the years he spent playing in Dallas. He never said no to autographs, pictures, or even a little chat. It's was an awesome Saturday.

How was y'all's weekend? I sort of rambled here, but that was my weekend-ish.

Laissez le bon temps rouler: It's Mardi Gras!

Laissez le bon temps rouler, y'all! Or if you don't know French, "Let the good times roll."

Today is Mardi Gras or also known as "Fat Tuesday", which happens to mark the last day of ordinary time before the start of Lent. Traditionally, Mardi Gras is the day you indulge in all of the bad/good stuff you enjoy. I am taking full advantage of today and have my fill of all the stuff I like to eat. A fun fact about Mardi Gras, in Italy it's celebrated with everyone attending masquerade balls, unlike it is in New Orleans.

I believe I have stated before that I'm Catholic, so I do happen to practice Fasting and Abstinence in law with Lent. Ever wondered what the rules really entail? Well here is some of the description of what Catholics are required to do.
Abstinence The law of abstinence requires a Catholic 14 years of age until death to abstain from eating meat on Fridays in honor of the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday. Meat is considered to be the flesh and organs of mammals and fowl. Also forbidden are soups or gravies made from them. Salt and freshwater species of fish, amphibians, reptiles and shellfish are permitted, as are animal derived products such as margarine and gelatin which do not have any meat taste.

Fasting The law of fasting requires a Catholic from the 18th Birthday (Canon 97) to the 59th Birthday (i.e. the beginning of the 60th year, a year which will be completed on the 60th birthday) to reduce the amount of food eaten from normal. The Church defines this as one meal a day, and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity. Such fasting is obligatory on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The fast is broken by eating between meals and by drinks which could be considered food (milk shakes, but not milk). Alcoholic beverages do not break the fast; however, they seem to be contrary to the spirit of doing penance.

Aside from these minimum penitential requirements Catholics are encouraged to impose some personal penance on themselves at other times. It could be modeled after abstinence and fasting. A person could, for example, multiply the number of days they abstain. Some people give up meat entirely for religious motives (as opposed to those who give it up for health or other motives). Some religious orders, as a penance, never eat meat. Similarly, one could multiply the number of days that one fasted. The early Church had a practice of a Wednesday and Saturday fast. This fast could be the same as the Church's law (one main meal and two smaller ones) or stricter, even bread and water. Such freely chosen fasting could also consist in giving up something one enjoys - candy, soft drinks, smoking, that cocktail before supper, and so on. This is left to the individual.

Interesting isn't it? I hope this was informative and go crazy today and get your fill!

Weekend Wrap-Up

It's Monday! Not a fun day for many, but hey if you live in Dallas-Fort Worth area then there is an ice day. This weather has been insane! I was seriously wearing shorts on Saturday. On Sunday I was wearing jeans, boots, layered shirts, and my North Face. It was basically a 51° temperature difference.

I did a little shopping this weekend. J.Crew was having a sale that if you used their card you'd get 20%off your entire purchase. A lot of the merchandise already had some sort of discount so there were some great deals. In the end, I ended up buying the drawstring dress pants and a camo sweatshirt that I've been dying to purchase for quite a while. Actually, I've just wanted something camo in my wardrobe and this just so happen to be a great opportunity. I do love a good sale! Also, later in the week I'll share some other items I'll be receiving that I ordered online. They are currently sitting somewhere on a UPS truck.

Here you can click on the items below the photo and it will take you to J.Crew's website and you can get your own!

Shop With Me (Fun and casual)

Another little purchase I made was on some makeup. I know, I post a lot about makeup; I can't help it! But this time is was actually something I've been in the market to buying or at least wanting to test out. I'm one of those that will sit for hours looking at YouTube Beauty Guru's do tutorials. So here I was watching them and decided that I needed a translucent powder and highlighting pen. I didn't want to spend an outrageous amount of money on 2 items that I was using for the first time. I went over to Victoria's Secret and purchased the items. It was reasonably priced compared to some of the brands I usually buy. I have used them and let's just say the highlighter was actually really creamy and just a shade lighter than my natural color. Also, the translucent powder was very light and didn't make my face look cake nor did it melt with the 84°F weather that occurred Saturday.

You can purchase your own by clicking on the links bellow:

What did you guys do this weekend? Keep a lookout for tomorrow's Mardi Gras Post!
